Lucy Dunne founded Dunnebells after 5 + years of struggle and 35K spent on weight loss programs, trainers and empty promises that she would be able to lose the 65 lbs that she needed to.
An Australian Citizen who now calls Canada home has been featured on CTV news, Star Metro, was a 2018 Impact trainer of the year nominee and showcased with Women’s Fitness. It is clear that Lucy is on a mission to make a difference with her Online Personal Training company.
PERSONAL TRAINING MAKING A DIFFERENCE
There are a number of ways that Dunnebells gives back all of which are not in a traditional way. It would be easy to take 2% of profits and donate to them to a charity each year. That is what Lucy used to do. After sitting down and thinking about WHY giving back was important, it became clear that Lucy needed to mix things up with this model.
Lucy works with local partner GoodPin which allows her to GIFT funds to clients who purchase fitness programs. This empowers the individuals who are ready to make a change for themselves, make a change and have an impact on others right away. Once the funds are received by the client, they can then choose whatever charity they like to send the gifted funds over to.
Another way that Dunnebells gives back is through the monthly community classes held at Square 1. Individuals show up to this class with their donation and the group gets to choose as a charity where the funds from this class will go. The community is strong and relationships go even deeper when we head next door to our friend’s Brewsters who host us for (well deserved) food & drinks.
Lucy was honoured to be the Habitat for Humanity Women Build 2018 ambassador and feels privlidged to be able to go the extra mile on International Women’s Day and donate 100% of her “Be The Fire” apparel sales to the Women’s Shelter. It is initiatives like this that make being an entrepreneur so rewarding. You get to call the shots and make a difference.
OUTSIDE OF DUNNEBELLS
In her spare time (what is that), Lucy enjoys hitting the slopes, spending time with her fiancé Kelsi, her friends, and her self, exploring the food scene, exercising and making unnecessary trips to Winners claiming that she is “just going to look at one thing”.
What inspires you?
Every single day is different so this is a hard question to answer! If I had to try and nail it down to a few things, they would be Women Entrepreneurs, My clients and the thought of my future.
What makes you laugh?
The love of my life and future wife, Kelsi Johnstone. We are so ridiculous together and she knows how to make my cheeks hurt every single day.
What’s the best advice you have ever given?
When it comes to health and wellness, do you. Do what feels good to YOU. Do what works for YOU. Ignore the media, your friends, your family and anyone else who wants to give their opinion on what you should be doing to look and feel your best.
What is your power jam?
“Run this town” – Jay Z, Rhianna, and Kanye. If you ever want to see a white Australian girl rap, just put this tune on for me.
What is your hidden talent?
I am really good at turning an omelet into scrambled eggs. Ask me how.
How are you making a difference?
I have a lofty goal of donating $1M to charities. Community classes, at Square 1 (all funds go to charity).
Every time a program is purchased to donate to their charity of choice I would say these are just some examples of how I am making a difference.
